How to Feel Blond All Over

I found this adorable interview in Pageant magazine (now defunct) with Marilyn Monroe about how she "stays in shape" (1952), which, according to her, was down to a combination of what sounds a lot like the Pilates I do, plus "a set of bizarre eating habits."

Some think me odd for having a homemade green smoothie for lunch most days, when I'm home (lettuce, spinach, celery, apple, pear, lemon, ginger, fresh herbs and spirulina- don't knock it till you've tried it!) but I don't think even I could stomach Marilyn's breakfast drink recipe: two raw eggs whisked into a cup of hot milk with a vitamin pill. I like my eggs poached on smoked salmon and served with coffee :)

Anyway, I really love these happy photos of her working out at home (in full hair and makeup, no less) and think I will try and do a shoot like this myself, come summer :) It could be fun to have a photographer come round to my place first thing to shoot me as I wake up, and let me show off my little yoga moves. I'd really like to do them nude, though :)

I'm focusing more than usual on healthy eating and regular exercise at the moment to help cope with some troubles going on in my life, and wonder if Marilyn ever did something similar. Her life didn't exactly run smoothly. She had to look good for work, but maybe engaging her body helped distract her mind, too. I can't say exactly what's on my mind yet for solid legal reasons, but I can say it's to do with a client who is hopefully on his way to prison :(( and I may well have to testify against him (anonymously) in court. I've never had an experience like this with a man before and it's shocking how mentally and physically tiring it is on a daily basis, even when I haven't had an update on the case in weeks :(

In the meantime, I am trying to get out of the house every day to do something fun or have a little adventure, spend quality time with my ladies who lunch, explore new hobbies like skiing, shooting and collecting whiskey, and investing more time in my more established hobbies, like yoga and golf lessons. My yoga mat is starting to get holes in it from all the action! It's balm for the soul and means I can put off opening that bottle of champers until the weekend... perhaps starting with a mimosa to go with those poached eggs ;) ;) ;)

I dropped into a supermarket for an avocado on my way home last week and ended up buying a whole bag of Halloween tat instead, including a clever full-face mask that looks like a mirror. I have at least one fancy dress party to attend this month but as usual, don't know what to wear.

I'd love to wear my slinky LBD for Halloween again this year, which looks innocent enough but has bat wings when I lift up my arms to fix my hair ^_^ but I also bought this more 50s style dress, so I'll have to decide which to go with... it's a good girl vs bad girl fashion choice, for sure. The bat dress is shorter and more figure-hugging, but I quite like the idea of being on top in the good girl option...

I really like the creepy retro children's toy characters on the skirt of the first one. Why did no-one in the first half of the C20th realise how creepy their children's toys and cartoon characters were? Anyhow, these novelty print or appliqued skirts were popular in the 50s, but I just can't work out what one of the characters is supposed to be. We have a pumpkin, an owl, a cat and a..?!
